Has anyone ever finished this adaption? I had it for the longest time but never bothered watching as the storyline is quite boring to me. The novel itself is very boring and not very attractive. Everyone praises Rebecca Wang and Victor Huang in their roles respectively (funny because both are villains). I had only watched the 2003 version and I actually liked it because they changed a lot of details. (i.e Xiao Die is a highly skilled martial arts expert, not a weakling and crybaby). Also the dubbing was great as well and Adam Cheng and Norman Tsui were in it. The 1997 ATV version titled Swordsman is loosely based on it and I didn't really like it either. It dragged too much and Damian Lau was just too old for the role.

@ LNC

I agreed. My brother loved this series, he watched it till in the end and rewatched it quite a few times. I couldn't sit through it although I felt like the production and action and fight scenes were top notch. It was a bit too dramatic for me though and not enough action.

@bong happy. I did not even like the fighting scenes. I simply the detest the slow mo flying effects with freezing in mid air. I like the fighting scenes in the 2003 version better as it was more realistic with no CGI used. I also forgot Singapore also made a TV series title The Great Conspiracy in 1993 which was also loosely based on this storyline. But the character Lu Xing Chuan is played by a live female actress, and castrates himself and turns into a woman by the end of the serial.

In a nutshell the storyline is the female protagonist was raped and impregnated by her father's follower (who plots to kill him and take his position) and she kept it a secret from her father and was banished from her household. The main protagonist is an assassin and is assigned to assassinate her father but they end up falling in love, he pities her, not sure if he can live up to this task, people try to break them apart, all the secrets come out, etc.

There are very few female character here, and the ones that are here are very annoying. One is a villain and one is a weak crybaby. A lot of backstabbing and mind playing involved; certainly not my cup of tea. I wonder how the 79 version is. I know it was dubbed because I watched it when I was very small but I don't remember anything.
