Really though, since the Tyson/Holyfield brawl, the sport of boxing has slowed down and losing its fan base after the rise of UFC. I'm really stoked that two great fighters of our time, Floyd and Manny are going to display their talents this Saturday. Some may not be with me on the same page on this, but what's solid is that after they raised the cost of this particular fight, Pay Per View's gonna make a shit load of money!

i have to admit i was kinda shocked with Pac fighting this time, he didn't just attack like he always does, a few time i saw him drawing himself back. lol i guess he was smart enuff not to be baited by floyd to much nd i thought he threw a few good punches as well. To be honest, i though Pac might have a chance...

As for the fight before it started, I felt the same like many people and for the same reasons as yours. My brain told me Mayweather was going to win, while my heart went out to Pacquiao. I ended up tossing money on Pacman despite the huge risk....it was totally not a calculated risk, to say the least, but I felt like I could be part of history - that guy who bet on Pacman on won HAHA
We all know what happened when it was said and done. Mayweather won. It was no surprise to those who saw the fight. Manny didn't have that burst he had in the past. His footwork was off. He looked sluggish all-around. His punches didn't connect many times. During the fight, I often thought he could've done more uppercuts cuz Mayweather tends to go low when h e's dodging punches. But whatever, I thought.
Come to find out after the fight, Manny had a torn rotator cuff, the same injury that forced Kobe Bryant to take the rest of the season off. WTf? Obviously, this is some serious shit! What upset me is that he didn't even report it until shortly before the fight as he asked for an anti-inflammatory shot. He was rightfully denied the shot because he didn't follow procedure. Right then, I thought, why go in the ring when you know you can only punch with one arm? A huge disadvantage. I can understand that money could be a factor in his decision-making, but still, this is not right. I lost some respect for Manny.
To answer your question, I think the arm reach makes a huge difference in my opinion. Mayweather has a 72" reach as oppose to Manny's 67". For a defensive boxer like Mayweather, that 5" inch difference is no doubt key to succeeding in the ring. It makes me think, however, how boxing nowadays is so damn whack. I know Mayweather won it fair and square...but damn, his wins take away from what boxing is all about. I personally think boxing is all about going head-to-head with your opponents and beating the shit out of him. It derives from the gladiators days where men kill each other as a sport. As a fighter, your sequence should NOT be jab > duck > jab > hug > jab > step away > jab > hug > jab > step away. This is Mayweather's style and he did it to Manny. Are these moves illegal? No. But they're not what fighting is all about. No wonder boxing is losing its fan base to UFC. It's some whack ass shit people don't want to watch.
My bad for that aggressive long ass paragraph, I just had to let it out. People should know what boxing was really all about. This last fight just disgusts me. It's now about Manny eating a Butterfinger on camera and making over a million dollars for doing it.
I think the fight was a waste. Personally, i think it's all a "setup". 12 rounds and no one get any bruises..Good thing i didn't waste $100 on it.. I watch for free at my house
